Karsh/Hurrell

Elena Tapia - Creative Project One

The idea behind this project was the possible emotions felt when contemplating suicide.  The beginning  photo is of a woman taking a good look at herself and deciding whether or not she wants to kill herself. The following 6 photos are of different people all expressing different emotions while contemplating the same idea.  The use of different models and objects shows that suicide can take many different forms.  Those who contemplate such an act do not always feel depressed, sometimes contemplation of suicide can bring feelings of relief and even ecstasy.  The final photo represents the success of an attempt of suicide with the person's pulse being taken.

This is a series of photographs about the process of vanity. It shows the outrageous things we are willing to do to be mainstream "beautiful". From young girls, and even boys, to adults, everyone wants to be viewed by society as beautiful or attractive. I wanted to capture the actions we take to make ourselves good enough to be seen in society.

Creative Assignment One

I wanted to show the relationship between dolls, manmade, and the environment, nature. Ever since I got into the ABJD (Asian Ball Jointed Doll) hobby I've wanted to experiment with photographing dolls. I really like both types of photos where the doll either looks very human-like or where they feel very cold. I'm very happy with these as a jumping off point for different paths I can take with photographing this particular type of subject.

"From Behind the Music" (Creative Project 1) by Kristin Gutierrez

In these photos I wanted to show the life of a man that is near and dear to my heart and a drummer in a local Albuquerque band. As a musician, especially a drummer, most people don't see the hard work and dedication that goes into making a band successful. Most people see instruments as guitars, drums, or piano but their are many more instruments that are used to make a band. In the pictures I show some common instruments and in others I show more unconventional instruments; I shows things like the instrument of the mind, the instrument of the cigarette, the instrument of clothing. All these things make a band in one way or another and in most cases Nick is the one that holds it all together. While he is in the background as the drummer he contributes in many ways to make the band successful. I made the images black and white and low key for this reason. In the dark background he shines out from behind for his music.

Eave's Ranch Trip- Larisa Wade

Creative Project 1- Larisa Wade

For this project, I was thinking about the relationship between femininity and food. In American culture, the ideal woman is delicate. She has no appetite. The majority of women do not fit this ideal. For my project, I wanted to illustrate binge eating, a taboo behavior. My photos, which feature the same feminine, lipstick-coated mouth, show both an increase in eating intensity (from 'ideal' to binging) and a progression of mood (from cheerful and feminine to sickly and bad). I showed the progression of eating by making the manner of food consumption steadily more vulgar and the type and quantity of food steadily more caloric. I showed the deterioration of mood through the use of colored frames and the increasing coarseness of the subject's skin. The skin represents the woman and society's perception of her (crumbling) beauty. The images illustrate the guilt and negativity that many women experience when indulging in food. They use a woman's mouth, typically found in beauty photography, to show a female experience which is rarely depicted.
